Licensed electricians are also referred as journeyman electrician or master electrician. But obtaining the license involves fulfillment of certain criteria. It differs from state to state but in general the most crucial aspect of getting a license is apprenticeship program. In addition to the apprenticeship program, the electrician needs to have at least one year of hands-on practical experience.
Academic qualification and work experience in the field of electrical contracting also play a major part in obtaining the license. The basic knowledge required to obtain the license include, installation and wiring of electrical system in places like residence and buildings. The job profile of an independent electrical contractor has many aspects. Right from heating, lighting, air-conditioning to power and refrigeration, he needs to have the command over all these things. Understanding of building blueprints and wiring diagrams is also necessary.
